Recovering from round 1 of chemo: back inpatient

The good news is she hung in there and played her heart out for her Colorado Aunt, Uncle and cousins visit last weekend. The bad but expected news, is she is back in the hospital today with a fever likely due to neutropenia (which is when her white blood cell count drops low). We were admitted after we finished meeting with the radiation oncologist here at Duke to begin planning for radiation to be combined with chemotherapy for her next 2 rounds.

Thanks for praying for our girl to recover inpatient as expected over the next week or so while we wait for her body to heal and her counts to rise. We are remembering and finding that strange and unwanted familiar rhythm that comes with chemo and it’s recovery. We are finding strength in a new focus. It’s time to stop hanging our heads in tears, disbelief, fear, despair, bitterness, or anger. None of that matters. What matters is that she responds to treatment and keeps moving, keeps going. And we will do everything possible to help her sweet and joyful spirit shine through this darkness. God sent us THREE rainbows on our walk into the Duke Cancer Center today. We will keep following them. #charlottestrong
