Best Day So Far!
Charlotte has had the best day so far since she has been hospitalized. She has begun to talk and smile with the nurses here and really come back out of her protective shell she has created.
She actually wanted to play today. Fevers are really spreading out (about 36hrs). That and getting some nutrition via feeding tube is helping her feel better.
The fluid is only a minor concern at the moment but we still need other issues to resolve such as a sustainable white blood cell increase for several days and they are also watching her heart rate closely as she is still tachycardic (rapid heart rate) which could be due to several factors at this point. Team is working to isolate the main cause now but it could simply be the tumor itself which impacts adrenal glands.
Wanted to share a few happy pictures from today: after sponge bath, Popsicle, art and reading with child life here.
These will be the last days for pictures with her "current" beautiful hair. It will be falling out quickly very soon. We will walk the kids through this very matter of factly and of course use our ability to tease daddy in the process because Charlotte's hair will grow back as she gets better but daddy's won't! Ha! This part is bringing out another emotion in me that I can not name. Perhaps it's just that the hair loss is an outward sign of this disease that I hate and wish never touched our sweet girl. It's also the sentimental mommy in me. The one who saves a lock of hair after a babies first hair cut...Brian and I have brushed that hair so lovingly. I run my fingers through it daily and wonder when she will ever leave her pony tail or bows in:)
But we will look forward to watching her heal and regrow her hair knowing that the little girl who wears it is happy, healthy, and loved.

ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear she is feeling a little better and more like herself!! Such an amazingly strong and beautiful little gal--and such a trouper for sure. Your family in Indiana is thinking of you all every day. Prayers and thoughts sent your way. SO hoping she can come home soon!!! Fingers crossed! (Have been getting/reading the e-mailed updates from the blog but keep forgetting I can post a message too!) Love you all--Kelly
ReplyDeleteOf course she has formed a protective shell...I would too! Good for you Charlotte :) Bless her little heart and God love her and watch over her! I am sooo happy to see that beautiful smile and read that she had a good day! I am sure it is so hard not being home together as a family. Big hugs for you ALL. Thank God she is exactly where she needs to be to get better. Duke is the BEST for sweet little Charlotte as she fights this and beats it. We will have a HUGE party once she beats this! Know that you are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers constantly. Hang in there and remember...one day at a time. You've got this. Love you all xoxoxoxo
