Wrapping up round 4

Charlotte continues to show a side of battling cancer that we didn't expect. As if God has wrapped his own protective arms around our sweet girl, shielding her from the war zone going on inside of her little body. She plays. She jokes. She laughs. She sleeps. She eats. She learns. She tests us like a typical two year old. Then she runs circles around the hospital ward wanting all the nurses attention as if every one of them was there to play with her. She plays pretend. She wants to snuggle with her mommy and daddy. She paints and colors. She sings and dances. She is saving Brian and I every day because it is hard to feel sad or sorry for ourselves over  what is happening when we have this happy go lucky little girl to care for. We are so blessed and finding so many blessings that would have been camouflaged if it weren't for Charlotte living them out in front of us every single day.

Now it isn't all rose colored. She is battling nausea. She has been confined to a room for 3 days allowed only to walk down the hall because she is on a constant 24 hour drip of chemo and she isn't allowed to go to a playroom or to see our fish friends or anywhere else during this round. She has bandaged hip sores from the biopsy. She has cranky and tired and "yucky" days. When we get home, she gets a daily shot to help her white blood cells recover and although she usually only needs it for about 7 days she wakes every day asking if today is a day for a shot because she fears it so. And she knows way more than I would ever want her to know about medical terms and procedures. She hones in, giving all her attention, when any medical personnel comes to talk with us and the language she is understanding and asking about is beyond anything a little 2 year old should ever have to concern themselves with. But....we are doing it. She is doing it. The chemo is doing its job and no matter what other results come our way this week, for now, THAT is enough to give us the positive energy to stay at it. And while we sit here and watch in amazement, Brian and I have started asking ourself this question: is the medicine (chemotherapy) making Charlotte better or is Charlotte the one making this chemotherapy work?! We think it's a bit of both. And one thing is certain, God is with her every single step of the way. Our hope is to go home tomorrow as she is handling this round of 3 seperate chemotherapies very well so far! And as always, we will update once further results are in with any other improvement they find so far. Here are pictures of this 4th round:

  3. She is most definitely making the medicine work. Years from now, as we all continue to face life and daily struggles, each of us blessed enough to be in your lives will think of Charlotte and remember her fight. We will all continue to be inspired by her strength. And we will all fight our on fights because of that inspiration.
