RMH magic

I tucked Charlotte in and planned to write a quick update last night, but I briefly closed my eyes and woke up 12 hours later! We both crashed and must have needed it. Her body is working so hard as evident of how much she slept after treatment yesterday and last night. She handled day 1 of round 2 incredibly. This is hard on their bodies, but we just keep trying to envision this therapy creating an army seeking and destroying any cancer cells. The pain came with just 9 minutes left of her infusion time and she was able to handle it remarkably. She had some blood pressure issues that kept us longer then normal, but once that resolved, we were able to head back to the RMH to rest. She get well enough for a little playroom craft after dinner and then got a great nights sleep.

Today she woke feeling good and got a day off (infusions are Mon, Wed, Fri)! We were able to play a lot and got a few groceries for the week after we played at a nearby playground. She enjoyed a lot of different activities the RMH provided today. They had a company come to help the kids make home made fried mozzarella sticks, she played some games with a few new friends we made, she joined the slime squad (her favorite!) and made a Carolina blue and a Duke blue slime, and then she joined in the a music group who came to play with the children tonight after dinner. The RMH often makes it seem like a big party to be here. It’s truly an incredible place for the children and families. When you are a guest here, you are walking with and among so many other families who often have a different story then your own, and yet the empathy and comradery is unparalleled to anywhere else. The understanding and acceptance and support and love overflows in this place.

This place cannot cure. These people are not doctors or research scientists. You will not find any answers to your questions nor a reason for why you are here. But what you will find here will help you cope and Help you try to be the best you that you can be in this moment for your child. You’ll find a different kind of healing, and it’s pretty incredible. Tonight, I am thanking God for this place and for those who work and volunteer and donate time and money and resources. The Ronald MacDonald Organization does more then just keep families close and children entertained. They provide a life line of the most unique kind. A human chain life line made up of ordinary people doing something extraordinary. And we are forever indebted, I mean just look at her joy and this is just a small peak into the wonderfulness of our home away from home.

May God continue to wrap his arms around our baby girl again tomorrow for day 2. She’s got this.

You did so good baby.

Her Kindergarten teacher Ms. Miller packed these in with some glasswork she could work on. She’s the best!

Learning to read and keeping up with her K curriculum!
