"Trick or Treating"

So, we know we will be hospitalized for Thanksgiving. Taylor's 8th birthday in mid-December and Christmas are questionable as we could be hospitalized, in out patient temporary housing or (FINGERS CROSSED!) home. But we got Halloween together. It's no Thanksgiving or Christmas but we made a point to make the best of what we got. And for each of us, isn't that the point? None of us knows what lies ahead in this life so we live for what is in front of us in this moment in time each day.

Now, those who know me know how I just love Halloween. I always have. And although falling on a Monday isn't ideal, we got to go trick or treating all together! I suppose Charlotte had heard me say "it's almost time for trick or treating" or "are you exciting to go trick or treating?" etc so when it came time for her to walk her sassy-in-lipstick-little-Elsa-self up to a neighbor's door, well that's exactly what she would say.  "Trick or Treating!" in her little sweet voice. And when she got tired and cold, she crawled up into the stroller and snuggled up in a blanket while her big sister would always grab an extra candy to bring back to her basket each time. And then she went back to our house and handed out some candy on her grandparents lap, eating some of her treasures and marveling at all the kids and costumes and Halloween energy.

Charlotte is feeling great and recovering just beautifully. She has normal energy level and her normal
Appetite has returned! We have a check up and pre-admissionnlabs and testing both Thursday and Friday this week. So, we are praying that the invisible pieces within her have been hard at work healing so that they too match what we can see on the outside. We pray that the results prove Charlotte is ready for transplant 2. We have a date of November 15 to be admitted back into Duke's pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and our hopes are no delays needed.  She needs to keep going and keep moving. But not just yet. We get her here, home. We get this day. This halloweeen. This day after Halloween. This moment. It will not pass us by uncherished. And even though we still have business as parents and adults to take care of: work, bills, house work, kids to feed and nurture and teach and discipline at times, the moments are woven into those duties. Even in doing what appears as unremarkable duties, they are pieces of the thread work that keeps our family together and helps our children to become the people they have the potential to become. I know each day isn't always smelling daiseys, but that's not the point either, is it? One day could feel like a drop in the hat, or it could feel like a day we made the best of just doing the best we can. The kids make Brian and I want to be the best versions of ourselves we can be, and to make the best of whatever we can whenever we get it.

Thanks for your prayers, specifically for the test results to reveal our girl is ready for the next step. Love to you all. We hope you had some fun "trick or treating" in whatever way you were able❤️🌈
